Blueprint #1
Installing Buda5 (is no longer too hard)

RIGHTY. Just go download either the Minbari War pack or the Raider Campaign from the missions page - they are both self-installing and contain all required files. Once you have the zip, unzip it and run the included installer. It will do all the hard work for you. Note that you can't have both installed at the same time.

The following is no longer important unless you run into trouble or you wish to play custom Buda5 missions:

STEP1:
  • Download the Mission DevKit. The kit contains a deslabber, which you must use to deslab all .slb files in the psg/resource directory.
  • The simplest method to deslab the files is simply to drag and drop all the .slb files on the deslabber icon in Windows. If that doesn't work for some reason, you must resort to using the DOS prompt.
  • If the deslabbing was succesful you now have a bunch of new directories in the psg/resource folder within the art, scripts, and text folders.

STEP2:

Download the complete model pack and extract it to your I-War folder with pathnames.

All model files have pathnames now, but here is the breakdown in case you need it:

  • All .shp files to psg/resource/scripts/ships
  • All .lwo files to psg/resource/shapes
  • All .pix files within the textur_h folder in the pack to psg/resource/art/textur_h/ships
  • All .pix files within the textures folder in the pack to psg\resource\textures\ships

STEP3:

Blueprint #2
Loading Missions

Loading campaign:
  • Before you do anything else, edit the VIDEODIR and DIALOGUEDIR lines in dreadnaught.ini so that they display the FULL path. This allows you to see the video and hear the speech. Also make sure that you remove the ; sign to uncomment the line.

    Example:

    original:
    ; VIDEODIR "\psg\resource\video"
    ; DIALOGUEDIR "\psg\resource\audio"

    change to:
    VIDEODIR "C:\Program Files\Defiance\psg\resource\video"
    DIALOGUEDIR "C:\Program Files\Defiance\psg\resource\audio"

This enables you to see the briefings and in-game videos and hear the
speech, if you have it installed.
  • Create a shortcut to your I-War executable and then edit the target line (properties/shortcut) and add switches -noslab and -disk. Also add -b -16 if you are running in hardware mode, and -800x600 right after it if you want to run at higher resolution in hardware mode.

Example: "C:\Program Files\Independence War\IWar.exe" -disk -noslab

Hardware mode in 800x600:
"C:\Program Files\Independence War\IWar.exe" -b -16 -800x600 -disk -noslab

  • Play like normal I-War campaign! (Click on Babylon station in upper left corner if you are using the custom Buda5 interface.)

Loading individual missions:

  • Option 1: Like above, but you need to add path to the mission you want to play. See the example below.

Example: "C:\Program Files\Independence War\IWar.exe" -noslab "C:\Program Files\Independence War\psg\resource\scripts\missions\B5-Infinity.scr"

  • Option 2: Donwload Entropy's excellent I-War launcher program from his website and forget all about this command line nonsense! (recommended)
